About the Joan Graham Award
The Joan Graham Award recognizes an individual who imparts shared learning in the form of continuing education and encourages the continuing competence of College members.
Joan Graham was a nursing graduate from Lamont Hospital who later took training in both diagnostic and therapeutic radiography.
Ms. Graham was very active in organizing the training of x-ray technicians, as they were then called, in Alberta when instructors were on a voluntary basis with unpaid lecturers.
When the training shifted to NAIT, Joan focused her energy to organizing post-graduate training for radiographers in Alberta.
Through all this, Joan Graham also found time to be a charter member of the Alberta Society of X-Ray technicians and a pioneer member of the CSRT.
About the 2018 Joan Graham Award recipient – Lynette Ziegler-Wood, MRT(R)
The 2018 recipient of the Joan Graham Award is committed to the continuing education of radiological technologists.
For the last ten years, or so, if you were trained as a radiological technologist through SAIT, and have been through the department at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, chances are you know our recipient.
Her love of teaching doesn’t stop at the students and her peers in x-ray; it is felt by most of us at least once a year as she is a CPR instructor and has been part of DICE Day from its inception.
Our recipient was also instrumental is the establishment of the provincial pediatric radiography manual. Lynette’s life mission is dedicated to radiation dose and that is why she is so committed to the manual to help technologists image children with the least amount of dose possible but getting all required images.
In the words of her nominator “Her love of teaching combined with her dedication to radiation safety and radiography radiates from her soul. Her excitement and passion are truly contagious. Congratulations Lynette! You deserve this and much, much more!”
