The Council and College also extend their profound thanks and appreciation to Michael Piva, MRT(T), Gail Astle, MRT(R), and public member Samantha Georgsen for their service.

As the Chair of the Nominations Committee, he displayed outstanding leadership and strategic acumen in the selection process for the Council. His appointment as Vice Chair of the Council in November 2022 coincided with a period of significant transformation within the Council and College. His wealth of experience and unwavering dedication played a pivotal role in navigating through this interval.

She was the Chair of the Governance Workgroup from 2019 to 2023 and made significant contributions to the Nominations & Appointments Committee and the Registrar/CEO Selection Committee. In the past year, she served in an ex officio role to ensure continuity during the CEO transition.

The Alberta government appointed Samantha Georgsen as a public member of Council in May 2021. From May 2021 to May 2024, she consistently demonstrated strong strategic thinking, played an active role in effective collaboration among council members, and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring public protection.

About Council Appointments

The College’s Council is comprised of six registrants appointed by the Council and six public members appointed by the Alberta government.

The appointment of Registrant Council members is a rigorous process that involves an evaluation of specific attributes and competencies. The Nominations Committee thoroughly assesses each applicant to ensure they meet the requirements outlined in the Health Professions Act (HPA), bylaws, and Council policy. Following this comprehensive review, the committee provides Council with recommendations on the appointment of individuals to fill vacant positions, taking into consideration the unique skills and expertise required for each role.

Registrant and public members of Council also sit on various subcommittees, including the Finance and Audit Workgroup, the Governance Workgroup, and the Nominations Committee.
