Exciting Changes to Continuing Competence Program – Fewer Hours, Simplified Platform
When we asked our registrants to assist in improving our Continuing Competence Program, we heard:
- “The number of required continuing (competence) hours is excessive.”
- “The CCP website is cumbersome and difficult to manage.”
- “Very confusing and too much to read.”
- “The time required for inputting and filling out (the CCP) is frustrating.”
As the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (the College) completes our comprehensive five-year CCP review, we’re committed to ensuring that any program updates address your concerns and support your ongoing professional development. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting your career, we believe the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) must be effective and meaningful to you.
The refreshed Continuing Competence Program will empower you to report on your learning:
- in a simplified and streamlined way,
- with greatly reduced mandatory hours,
- and on a new but familiar platform.
Since we’re moving platforms, we also have instructions on how you can save the last five years of your CCP records for future reference.
The new program will be launched on October 1 for the 2024-25 CCP cycle. This fall, webinars and videos will be available to learn how to use the new system.
Until October 1, 2024, please continue using the ‘My CCP’ platform for your 2023-24 CCP.
Preview of Upcoming Program Changes
REDUCED LEARNING HOURS (12 HOURS)
- “I have no time to finish all these courses.”
- “Decrease the learning hours.”
The most requested change to the program was reduced required learning hours. We have taken these concerns seriously and after careful consideration, we have decided to prioritize the quality of learning over quantity of hours.
As a result, the annual learning hour requirement has been reduced from 24 hours to 12 hours. We implemented the 12-hour requirement as a temporary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic and received positive feedback. We have, therefore, decided to make this change permanent.
SIMPLIFIED PLATFORM
- “The (CCP platform) definitely needs an upgrade.”
- “‘My CCP’ is not user-friendly.”
CCP reporting is moving to ‘My Profile’, the same portal you use for your annual Registration Renewal.
The ‘My CCP’ platform is being retired. It will go offline on September 30, 2024, at the end of the upcoming CCP audit.
This means that in September 2024, there will be a short gap in the availability of a platform for adding new learning. We thank you in advance for your patience. You may begin to enter your educational goals and learning starting in October.
EASIER TO USE
- “Language can be plainer.”
- “Have the questions specific to each specialty.”
We have upgraded the user interface to include more drop-down menus and fewer write-in areas.
Registrants will now only need to answer questions related to their specific specialties, eliminating the need to address other specialties.
To reduce confusion, we have eliminated the multi-session and multi-source forms and have provided clearer guidance on how specialties relate to the Standards of Practice.
MEMORABLE DEADLINES
- “Simplify this.”
In alignment with other regulators, the start of our CCP cycle timeline will now coincide with our renewal, which will both begin annually on October 1.
The new annual CCP cycle will be October 1 to September 30.
SAVING YOUR CCP RECORDS
When the ‘My CCP’ platform closes on September 30, 2024, your previous years’ CCP data will not be brought over to the ‘My Profile’ platform. This is due to program updates and technical incompatibilities between the systems.
However, Standard 6.1(f), states you must:
“Retain a documented record of the reflective practice review for five registration years from the end of the registration year in which the reflective practice review was completed.”
Therefore, unless you save your learning records in another way, we strongly urge you to save or print your CCP Learning Summaries from the last five years for your records. These single-page records are all you need to be in compliance with Standard 6.1(f).
