Do I have to notify the College if I stop working?

No. You are not required to notify the College. But if you do not notify us, your permit stays active until December 31, and you are responsible for all requirements for that permit year.

If I plan to leave practice, how many CCP hours do I need?

This depends on the month you leave:

  • January → 4 hours (refund possible if in good standing)
  • February – May → 8 hours (refund possible if in good standing)
  • June → 12 hours (refund possible if in good standing)
  • July – Sept → 12 hours (no refund)
  • Oct – Dec (renewal window) → 12 hours from the previous cycle + 4 hours from the current cycle (no refund)

What happens if I want to leave practice at any time in the practice permit year, but I have outstanding requirements?

  • You can still end your registration and practice permit, but you cannot resign in good standing if you have outstanding requirements such as CCP hours, unpaid fees, levies, fines, incomplete audits, or unresolved conduct matters.
  • Your practice permit will be cancelled, and you will be considered not in good standing, effective on the date you provide.
  • You will be issued a cancellation notice (and after Jan 1, you will also receive a suspension notice before cancellation).
  • This outcome is not considered a resignation.
  • You will be recorded as not in good standing, and a clean Verification of Standing Form cannot be issued.
  • All outstanding requirements on your profile must be resolved before a reinstatement application can be approved. This includes:
    • Completing all missing CCP hours
    • Paying all outstanding fees, levies, or fines
    • Resolving any audit or conduct matters
    • Paying for and completing a criminal reference check
    • Meeting any other registration requirements in place at the time of reinstatement

Important: If you leave practice during October–December but have not completed and submitted your CCP hours or have an incomplete audit, this may be considered unprofessional conduct and will be referred to the Complaints Director.

Can I get a refund if I resign?

  • Yes, if you leave between January 1 and June 30 and are in good standing, you will receive a refund.
  • No refunds are issued if you leave after June 30

What happens if I don’t renew and don’t notify the College?

  • If you do not renew by the deadline and do not notify the College, your practice permit will first be suspended and then cancelled.
  • After Jan 1, you will receive both a suspension notice and a cancellation notice,
  • You will still be responsible for all requirements tied to that permit year, including:
    • Completion and submission of CCP hours
    • Payment of all fees, levies, or fines
    • Resolution of any audit or conduct matters
  • You will be recorded as not in good standing, and a clean Verification of Standing Form cannot be issued.
  • All outstanding requirements remain owing and must be resolved before we can approve a reinstatement application, which includes all remaining CCP Hours.
  • Failure to complete and submit CCP hours during the renewal window (Oct–Dec) may also be considered unprofessional conduct and referred to the Complaints Director.

What happens if I inform the College that I don’t plan to renew, but I also fail to complete my outstanding requirements?

  • This is not considered a resignation.
  • If you notify the College that you will not renew but have outstanding requirements (CCP hours, fees, levies, fines, audits, or conduct matters), your permit will be suspended and then cancelled, not in good standing.
  • You will receive both a suspension notice and a cancellation notice.
  • You will be recorded as not in good standing, and a clean Verification of Standing Form cannot be issued.
  • All outstanding requirements remain owing and must be resolved before we can approve a reinstatement application, that includes all remaining CCP Hours.
  • Failure to complete and submit CCP hours during the renewal window (Oct–Dec) may also be considered unprofessional conduct and referred to the Complaints Director.

If I am leaving practice on October 1, do I need to complete any CCP for the new cycle?

  • To resign in good standing effective October 1, you must:
    • Notify the College before October 1 so your resignation can be processed in time, and
    • Complete and submit the 12 hours from the previous CCP cycle (Oct 1 – Sept 30).
  • You are not required to complete CCP hours for the new CCP cycle starting October 1, provided your resignation is effective that date.
  • If you fail to notify the College in time, you will be entered into the new CCP cycle and will be responsible for completing both:
    • The 12 hours from the previous CCP cycle, and
    • The CCP hours required for the new CCP cycle.
  • Failure to complete the 12 hours from the previous cycle will result in your permit being cancelled not in good standing and may be referred to the Complaints Director.

I did not leave in good standing and I now need to return to practice, what do I need to do?

It is important to understand that prior registration with the College does not guarantee that you meet the current regulations and legislation of the College when applying for reinstatement.

If you have outstanding CCP requirements, audits, or conduct matters, you must allow enough time to resolve these before your effective return date. Because these items may require additional time, it is strongly recommended that you submit your reinstatement application at least eight weeks in advance to ensure sufficient time for completion, review, and processing.

If you left practice and your registration and permit were cancelled, or you are not in good standing, you must complete both of the following before a reinstatement application can be approved:

  1. Clear Outstanding Requirements (carried forward)
  • Complete all missing CCP hours from previous cycles
  • Pay all outstanding fees, levies, or fines
  • Resolve any incomplete audits
  • Resolve any conduct matters or conditions
  1. Complete Reinstatement Application Requirements (new)
  • Submit a reinstatement application
  • Pay all applicable application and registration fees
  • Meet all current registration requirements in place at the time of application, which may include:
    • Completion of a Good Character Declaration Form
    • Successful completion of the Jurisprudence Exam
Paying for and completing a criminal reference check (fees are the responsibility of the applicant)
    • Obtaining and providing proof of Professional Liability Insurance (fees are the responsibility of the applicant)
    • Submission of diplomas and transcripts (any fees charged by institutions are the applicant’s responsibility)
    • A Substantial Equivalency Assessment (SEA) may be required if current registration requirements cannot be met (at the applicant’s cost). If required, the SEA may result in:
    – Assignment of additional examinations, testing, assessments, training, or education courses (at the applicant’s cost)

Only once both sets of requirements are satisfied will your reinstatement application be considered for approval.
