The Alberta College of Medical Diagnostics and Therapeutic Technologists (the College) will begin using text messaging to reach registrants with very important or urgent messages. The messages coming from (587) 847-4585 will begin with “ACMDTT:” to ensure registrants know they are legitimate and not spam. The technology is two-way, so registrants can reply and have conversations with the College. To end all future communication on the platform, recipients can reply with STOP. MRTs and ENPs are now able to submit their Registration Renewal for 2024. General and temporary registration will expire on December 31, 2023. The annual renewal process is one of the most important legal obligations for all medical radiation technologists (MRTs) and electroneurophysiology technologists (ENPs) practicing in Alberta. Registrants are urged to complete their renewal by November 30, 2023, to avoid an additional $150 administration charge. If you are renewing any Additional or Enhanced Practice Authorizations, we recommend submitting [...]

How MRTs and ENPs Benefit from Bill 46 Changes

2024-09-25T15:58:13-06:00

The College’s focus is to regulate medical radiation technologists (MRTs) and electroneurophysiology technologists (ENPs) to provide safe, competent, and ethical care to Albertans. This has come into sharper clarity in recent years through compliance with the requirements of Bill 46, which obligated the College to refine its focus on the public interest. Though Bill 46 caused the College to end several programs and events, many more have begun, and registrants directly benefit from these changes. More convenient, less costly learning [...]

The Regulatory Education Symposium held on October 22, 2022, was a resounding success with over 500 registrants for the four-hour Zoom learning event. The featured session was a two-hour workshop on diversity and inclusion presented by Michael Bach, CCDP/AP, the founder of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) and CEO of CCDI Consulting. Two other sessions were equally as popular: “Patient Fetal and Gonadal Shielding During Diagnostic Imaging Exams” with Andrea Kadar and David Hatch, and “Surveying the Landscape: [...]

Bill 46 Update: Branches

2024-02-29T14:06:23-07:00

The College’s branches were originally established to provide members opportunities for education, networking and discussion. Amendments to the Health Professions Act (HPA) introduced by Bill 46 require that the College only carry out professional regulatory duties in the public interest, which has a direct impact on branches. The object of branches as stated in the bylaws was to “provide members with a forum for discussion, professional development and networking.” In June 2021, Council carefully reviewed the legislation and received legal advice [...]

Perspectives – Students and Temporary Registrants

2024-05-02T20:07:47-06:00

Connor and Lana are about to begin working at a clinic. Connor is enrolled in a medical radiation technology program and is currently in the clinical practicum portion of his program. Lana has just graduated from a medical radiation technology program but has not yet passed the entry-to-practice examination. What are the College-mandated conditions of their employment? Students do not need to be registered with the College to complete their practicums. As a student, Connor is a “non-regulated worker.” [...]

Bill 46 Impact: Bylaws, Standards of Practice

2024-02-12T16:19:31-07:00

Much of the work the College has done in response to Bill 46 so far has been focused on the mandated separation of colleges and association functions. Over the last few months, however, we have started to prepare for the next phase of Bill 46’s implementation, which will require the development of new or amended college regulations, standards of practice, and bylaws. In February, Council approved the College’s new Bylaws. This revised document follows a template that was created by [...]
