A hearing is a formal legal process similar to a court proceeding used to resolve complaints of unprofessional conduct. It is conducted by a hearing tribunal in the role of a jury.

Attending a Hearing 

Hearings are generally open to the public unless the hearing tribunal grants a request to close the hearing, which may happen at the last minute. 

Observers must register at least three business days before the hearing.  

Media members must inform the Hearings Director of their affiliation.  

A Zoom link will be sent one day before the hearing.

  1. Joining the Hearing: Once the hearing starts, observers can only enter during a scheduled break or recess.
  2. Registration: Observers must register in advance and set their display name as “Observer – [First Name Last Name].” 
  3. Login Deadline: Observers must log in before the time specified in the Zoom link. Late arrivals will wait in the waiting room and be admitted at the next recess. 
  4. Waiting Room Access: Observers in the waiting room have limited access to the hearing. 
  5. No Recording: Recording or taking photos using any device, including mobile phones, is strictly prohibited. 
  6. No Communication: Observers cannot speak to tribunal members or other participants at any time and must remain muted. 
  7. Chat Disabled: The chat feature will be turned off throughout the hearing. 
  8. Microphones Muted: Observers’ microphones must remain muted at all times. 
  9. Cameras Off: Observers must keep their cameras off during the hearing. 
  10. Breaks & Private Sessions: Observers will be placed in the waiting room during recesses, private sessions, and tribunal deliberations. 
  11. Rejoining After Leaving: If an observer leaves the session, they can only rejoin at the next recess. 
  12. Personal Use Only: The Zoom link is for the registered observer only. Others must request their own link from the Hearings Director. 
  13. Unauthorized Presence: If unauthorized individuals are present, the observer will be removed and can only rejoin alone at the next recess. 
  14. Disruptive Behaviour: Disruptive observers will be removed and may only rejoin after a recess. 
  15. No Tech Support: Observers must resolve any technical issues on their own.
