Renewal’s Latest Upgrades Promise a More Efficient Experience

After receiving feedback on last year’s Renewal process, you can expect notable upgrades this year to elevate your experience, ease frustration, and protect your practice.

The biggest changes include removing supervisor approvals and requiring personal Professional Liability Insurance.

Upgrades

No More Supervisor Approvals

The most significant change impacting 80% of our registrants is that we no longer require your supervisor’s sign-off on the renewal of your Additional or Enhanced Practice Authorization(s). This will significantly speed up the approval of your Renewal.

An audit process will replace this requirement.

Streamlined Renewal Form

The renewal form is now less confusing and more user-friendly. Many registrants contributed excellent ideas, which were incorporated.

Simplified Practice Hours

We heard some struggled with entering practice hours, so we simplified the form. You can now see your practice hours for the previous four years, and the terminology has been clarified.

New Requirements

Personal Professional Liability Insurance Required for Jan. 1

Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) protects you against the high cost of lawyers, lawsuits, and more in claims of unprofessional conduct and disciplinary proceedings by the College.

Based on information from the Minister of Health, a new requirement this year is that all College registrants must have their own personal Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) by January 1, 2025 in order to support registrants through any regulatory disciplinary process. Your PLI declaration on the renewal form will be audited. A false declaration may result in a complaint of unprofessional conduct made by the College.

You must purchase your own personal PLI even if you have coverage through your employer.

Your Personal Email Address Needed

If you’re still using only your work email address on your My Profile, we require that you add your most-checked personal email address.

This is a Health Professions Act requirement, and My Profile’s security occasionally requires that you receive a code sent to your email to access the system.

About Annual Renewal

The annual renewal process is one of the most important legal obligations for all medical radiation technologists (MRTs) and electroneurophysiology technologists (ENPs) practicing in Alberta.

The Renewal for 2025 begins on October 1, 2024. Registrants are urged to complete their renewal by November 30 to avoid an additional $150 administration charge.
