Registration and Practice Permit Renewal for 2027 Opens October 2, 2026

Maintaining your registration and practice permit with the College is a key professional and legal responsibility for all Medical Radiation Technologists, Electroneurophysiology Technologists and Diagnostic Medical Sonographers practicing in Alberta.

You need to renew your practice permit if:

  • you want to continue practicing your profession in Alberta after your current practice permit expires.
  • you are currently registered with the College and want ot remain authorized to practice.

Important: You must renew your practice permit each year to remain legally authorized to practice.

  • Cancel your registration and practice permit if you:
    • plan to stop practicing because you are taking an extended leave, moving outside Alberta, or retiring, you can cancel your registration and practice permit. Read More
    • are cancelling your registration and practice permit on or before Dec 31, 2026
  • If you choose to Renew instead – you must complete your CCP requirements and ensure your professional liability insurance (PLI) remains active and does not lapse.You may choose to renew your registration and practice permit; however, you must complete your CCP and ensure your PLI remains active (not lapsed).
  • Supervisor approval is integrated into the renewal process.
  • All Provisional Practice Permit renewals are manually reviewed by the College before approval.
  • Your permit expiry date will be updated to the date specified in your original decision letter within 48 hours of a successful renewal.
  • If your renewal remains pending and you have not received communication from the College within three (3) business days, please contact us for an update or to determine whether any additional information or action is required.

Please note: Renewal applications submitted after December 23 will be reviewed beginning January 4. Applications will be processed in the order received, and applicants will be contacted as their application is reviewed.

We are making your 2027 renewal process easier and more efficient, starting with key updates:

  • Supervisor approval is integrated into the renewal process.
  • All Provisional Practice Permit renewals are manually reviewed by the College before approval.
  • Your permit expiry date will be updated to the date specified in your original decision letter within 48 hours of a successful renewal.
  • If your renewal remains pending and you have not received communication from the College within three (3) business days, please contact us for an update or to determine whether any additional information or action is required.

  • If you moved from the PRR to the General Register or were initially registered on or after July 6, 2026, you only need to complete and report 4 CCP hours to meet the College’s CCP requirement for the 2025-2026 cycle.
