Registration is mandatory. To practice as a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) in Alberta and use all protected titles, you must be registered with the College and hold an active practice permit.
Who can apply as a Reinstatement applicant?
This route applies to you if:
- You previously resigned or cancelled your registration and permit with the College and now wish to practice again in Alberta.

Within three (3) business days after you apply, the College will confirm the receipt of your application.
- Your application status will remain “submitted” until it is reviewed by the college.
Within ten (10) business days after your invoice is paid, the College will review your application.
- Once your application is reviewed, the College will notify you if it is incomplete and provide instructions on completing it.
- If your application remains incomplete or inactive for three months, it will be closed, and you will need to reapply to continue.
OR
Within ten (10) business days after confirming a complete application, the College will process your application.
- Once complete, the College will assess your application to ensure it meets the stated registration requirements and issue you a decision letter.
The College aims to meet these timelines; however, some applications may be more complex. If the College requires more time to make a decision, you will be notified. According to the legislation, the College has up to six months to render a registration decision.
You cannot practice until you receive a decision letter approving your registration application.
- You will be placed on the College’s general register and issued a practice permit only after your application is approved, and all payments are received in full. Once these steps are complete, you will receive your decision letter.
