Registration is mandatory. To practice as a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) and/ or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (DMS) in Alberta and use all protected titles, you must be registered with the College and hold an active practice permit.

Who can apply as a Newly Certified applicant?

This route applies to you if:

  • You graduated from an approved program of study in Canada within the last two (2) years, but you have not yet practiced in your specialty.

Before Applying

Requirement: Personal Information and Contact Details
Upload the following while completing your application:

  •  Two (2) pieces of photo IDs to validate your identity

If your legal name doesn’t match your ID or verification documents, you must submit proof of name change with a government-issued document.

Requirement: Post-Secondary Education
Upload one of the following:

  • Your official transcripts: Your education institution can send them directly from MyCreds.ca to registration@acmdtt.com. If you can’t obtain your transcripts directly through MyCreds, please contact your educational institute to have them sent to the College directly.

OR

  • A notarized copy of your Diploma: A certified true copy signed by a notary public.

*Note: Official transcripts sent from a personal email address or a copy of a diploma that is not notarized will not be accepted. This may delay your application processing time.

Requirement: Certification Examination
Upload the following:

  • MRT
    • A copy of your CAMRT or OTIMROEPMQ certification exam results indicating that you passed or the corresponding certificate.
      • If you are yet to complete the certification exam, your application route will then change to Provisional until the successful completion of the examination.
  • DMS
    • A copy of your Sonography Canada certification exam results indicating that you passed or the corresponding certificate.
      • If you are yet to complete the certification exam, your application route will then change to Provisional until the successful completion of the examination.

The College requires all necessary documents and payment of invoiced fees to be submitted within three (3) months of the application date.

After three (3) months of no activity on your file, your application will be closed. To continue with the application process, you will need to reapply with updated documents and pay all subsequent fees.

Applying

Follow these steps to apply for registration:

  1. Register for your account on the College Portal.
  2. On the portal dashboard, locate the section named ‘Certification Exams and ACMDTT Professional Development Courses’ and select the ‘+’ sign beside the Jurisprudence Education to complete the exam.
  3. See the “Before Applying” tab for registration requirements.
  4. Select Apply to begin your application.
  5. Select ‘Canadian Graduate’ from the ‘Application Type’ dropdown menu.
  6. Complete your application form by:
    • Entering your personal details, education/competency information, and eligibility information.
    • Uploading all required documents.
    • Answering the questions about your conduct and compliance.
  7. Review your application to make sure everything is complete and correct.
  8. Select ‘Submit.’

Here is how the application fee works:

  • After you submit your application, the College will send you an invoice for the application fee.
  • You can pay the fee through the College Portal.
  • The College will not start reviewing your application until the fee is paid.

After Applying

1. Application received

  • Within 6 calendar days after you apply, the College will confirm that your application was received.
  • Your application will not be reviewed until you pay the application fee.

2. Initial review

  • Within 14 calendar days after your application fee is paid, the College will review your application.
  • If anything is missing, you will be notified and given instructions on how to complete your application.
  • If your application stays incomplete or inactive for 3 months, it will be closed, and you must reapply.

3. Assessment

  • Once your application is complete, the College will assess it to make sure you meet all registration requirements.
  • Within 40 calendar days, most complete applications are processed by the College.

Note: Some complex applications take longer. By legislation, the College has up to 6 months to make a decision.

4. Decision and practice permit

  • You will receive a decision letter once the College has reviewed your complete application.
  • Your registration is not complete until you pay the registration fee invoice.
  • After payment, you can download your practice permit.
  • You cannot practice until you receive a decision letter approving your registration application.

A decision on your registration may take longer if you have:

  • Unpaid invoices
  • Missing, incorrect, or incomplete documents
  • Character, conduct, competence, or health information that needs review
  • An unclear criminal record check
  • No recent professional experience
  • Not written or passed the approved certification exam
  • Completed a program that is not approved or not taught in English
