Zoom Webinars

The College uses Zoom to host its virtual events. In order for you to have the best experience with one of our Zoom webinars, we encourage you to read the following overview and prepare for the webinar accordingly.

Downloading the Zoom client or app

If you are registered to attend a Zoom webinar, we recommend that you download and install the Zoom client/app on the computer/device you plan to use in advance of the event. You do not need to register for a Zoom account. You can join the webinar from a PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone or Android device.

If you don’t have Zoom installed on your computer/device already, you will be prompted to download it when joining the webinar. You can also access the webinar through a browser on a computer without installing the Zoom client, but there is limited functionality when you access it this way. If you don’t want to install the client, click the “Launch Meeting” button as shown in the screenshot below, then click “Join from your browser” on the next screen.

Participating in the webinar

An hour before the webinar is scheduled to begin, you will receive an email reminder that includes a link to join. At the time of the event, click the link to join the webinar. If you have the Zoom client/app installed, you will be prompted to open it when you click the link if you haven’t set it to open automatically. Please note that the passcode is included in your link so you don’t need to enter it manually anywhere. If you join the webinar before it begins, you will see a message that says “Please wait for the host to start this webinar.” As soon as we start broadcasting the webinar, you will be automatically added to it.

Once you’re in the webinar, you may see video of the presenters, a presenter’s shared screen or both. Depending on the client/app you’re using, you may be able to rearrange and resize the windows of the presentation, but they may also automatically move around when there are changes on the presenter’s end.

Zoom webinars are different from Zoom meetings. In a meeting everyone can interact with each other, while during a webinar, attendees can only watch and listen. You don’t need to have a camera or microphone. There will be audio, so make sure you have speakers or headphones set up if you’re not using a device that has speakers built in. If you have a question during the webinar, please submit it using the Q&A function.

If you have any questions about how to participate in a Zoom webinar, please feel welcome to contact us at communications@acmdtt.com.
