About the OIPC

One of the missions of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OIPC) is “ensuring public bodies, health custodians and private sector organizations uphold the access and privacy rights contained in the laws of Alberta.”

Through the OIPC, the Commissioner oversees and enforces Alberta’s three access to information and privacy laws:

  • Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP)
  • Health Information Act (HIA)
  • Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)

The Commissioner’s powers, duties and functions under Alberta’s access and privacy laws include:

  • Providing reviews of privacy complaints related to the collection, use and disclosure of personal or health information.
  • Conducting inquiries and issuing orders.
  • Educating public bodies, custodians and organizations about the application of the laws.
  • Educating the public about access and privacy issues.

Session, not Symposium

Please note that this is a Session and not a Symposium. Compared to our multi-topic, multi-speaker four-hour Symposiums, Sessions are more focused, shorter, and will adopt a less formal approach to meet the needs of our busy registrants. Watch for more of these events this year!

Regulatory Education Sessions aim to provide expert knowledge on regulatory topics and their impact on health professionals’ practices. These sessions are hosted by the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (the College).
